Motion Metrics was proud to sponsor the UBC Faculty of Applied Science’s annual Design and Innovation Day on April 5th.
Every year, students of the Applied Science faculty undertake a research project to find an innovative solution to a real-world problem. Design and Innovation Day is their opportunity to showcase these senior capstone projects to industry, alumni, and community members.
Motion Metrics sees the event as a wonderful way to give students hands-on experience translating theory into design. “I really enjoyed this event,” said CEO Dr. Shahram Tafazoli. “I have always felt we need more networking opportunities in Vancouver, for fresh graduates and in general, to enable exchange between academia and industry.”
An Awards Reception followed the ceremony, emceed by Dr. Tafazoli. Groups from each program won either a Faculty Award for Best Project ($350 per student) or an Industry Award for Best Presentation ($100 per student).
Motion Metrics’ Iris Nikolic and Daniel Ko had the honour of judging projects in the Mining program. “The projects were scored based on content, quality, communication, professionalism, design, and relevance,” explains Ko. “There were a lot of good projects and getting through them was hard as each contained so much good information.” Nikolic, too, was impressed by the calibre of work presented. “Overall, I thought it was a great event with lots of young and bright future talent who will be entering the workforce soon and contributing to different industries,” she said.
Motion Metrics recruits many fresh graduates and offers a variety of intern and co-op opportunities for current students.
